Troubled times

Writing home

A few years ago I saw reports featuring Ukranian soldiers hunkered down in trenches, it made me think of World War One, and how things don’t change much in some types of warfare. In commemoration of ANZAC day this week, I have been polishing up the lyric for a song written on this theme.

1./
I’m writing from the trenches,
winter’s fingers leave a chill.
It’s been raining bombs and shells,
but for a moment, things are still.

We’re waiting for the next round ,
to blow us all back home.
But while we’re here and living,
I need to let you know .

That I dream
of falling into your arms,
and a dream will have to do, for now.

One day this all will end
And we can begin again
and leave behind these troubled times

2 ./
Bullets bicker back and forth, but they can’t explain ,
just what all the fighting’s for, It’s someone’s crazy game.

and I hold  the memory of your warm smile,
gets me through these winter nights

One day this all will end
And we can begin again
and leave behind these troubled times

And the only thing that keeps me going,
day by day is knowing
you’ll be there when I return.
One day we’ll all be sitting, by a roarin’ fire talkin’
about what has and hasn’t been.

3./
And somewhere it is Sunday, and the sun has shown his head.
There’s a paper on a table waiting to be read

These things,
don’t  take them all for granted,
they could easily be gone .

One day this all will end
And we can begin again
and leave behind these troubled times

One day this all will end
And we can begin again
and leave behind these troubled times
